Facilities Subsector

About the Facilities Subsector collective agreement

The Health Services and Support - Facilities Subsector Collective Agreement covers approximately 43,700 health care support workers in British Columbia.

The Hospital Employees’ Union (HEU), the British Columbia Provincial Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) represent the employees in the Facilities subsector.

Care Aide is the largest job classification in the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA). This diverse bargaining unit also includes licensed practical nurses, food service workers, cleaners, lab assistants and nursing unit assistants.

In 2010, BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) employees were transferred to the FBA to better integrate with the broader health care system in BC. There are approximately 4,000 BC EHS employees working for BC Ambulance Services that deliver emergency response services across the province.

Status

HEABC and the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA) began negotiations for a new contract on September 11, 2018. The current Health Services & Support Facilities Subsector Association Collective Agreement expires March 31, 2019.
