HEABC is the accredited bargaining agent for most publicly funded health employers in the province. HEABC negotiates five major provincial agreements covering more than 115,000 unionized health care employees including nurses, health science professionals, physician residents and support workers. Workers provide services in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home support and community service agencies among many other work locations throughout British Columbia.
Specifically, the five agreements cover the following bargaining units:
- Community Subsector
- Facilities Subsector
- Health Science Professionals
- Professional Association of Residents
Collective agreements for all five bargaining units expired March 31, 2014. The Government of BC’s Economic Stability Mandate applies to all public sector employers with unionized employees whose collective agreements expire on or after December 31, 2013.
HEABC has reached new five-year agreements with the Nurses, Health Science Professionals, Community and Facilities subsectors and resident physicians that include modest wage increases and an Economic Stability Dividend.
These agreements provide benefits for employers and employees, while having a direct impact on improved patient care by providing long-term labour stability in the sector.
